This is where it started:
A good friend of mine went on a 7-day cleanse and shared her experience with me. So, a few weeks ago, I went to Whole Foods and checked out the “detox” aisle. I found this one and decided to try it after a conversation with my doctor. Since I’m still on a couple of blood pressure meds and I’m pre-diabetic, I wanted his input before the cleansing began.
Then, I got sick in early September. It started with sneezing, runny nose, headache, etc. Then, it drained downward through the throat and down into my chest. So, I went to the clinic and got some meds. It started to get better towards the beginning of October…then it got worse again. Finally, I was able to ask Dr. Orlando about the cleanse when I visited him for the bronchitis.
I was very frustrated. I had been doing so well with my weight but now, I had gained 5 pounds because I wasn’t exercising.
Sleeping at night was becoming difficult. I would wake up with a sore throat or coughing up phlegm. And the phlegm continued to flow throughout the day! (I know this is gross but I’m just keeping it real!)
Finally, after 8 weeks, 2 Dr.’s visits, a Z-pac, 1 bottle of cough syrup with codeine, 1 inhaler, a second antibiotic, and close to 1,000 Kleenex, I’m just now beginning to feel like the end is in sight.
So, how did I get here? Well….
- My life changed dramatically with a new job. I spent the last 2 years working sporadically so I had time to eat 3 meals a day, exercise several times a week, sleep decent hours and I had very little stress except for wondering where the money was coming from. Now, I have a full-time job that keeps me busy all day long. And sometimes, I work more than 8 hours a day. So managing my life schedule has become more of a challenge.
- Stress plays a role in terms of a job with details, parents who are getting older and need more help, and too many activities that demand my attention, assistance, etc.
- Not eating properly.
- Not sleeping properly.
- Not exercising enough.
So, I realized I didn’t just need to detoxify my digestive track. I needed to detoxify my mind and spirit, too.
So for the next 2 months, I’m detoxing. Probably, in a week or so, I’ll feel well enough to do the body cleanse. But tomorrow, I’m getting back into exercising….slowly and lightly. But today, I started my TV detox. No TV for a week. Then, I’ll go to 2 hours a day, 6 hours each day on the weekend. By the way, I can use the TV for Wii but I can’t watch any networks.
It felt odd not to immediately turn on the TV when I came home tonight. But I turned on the stereo as I prepared my dinner plate. Right now, I’m on the computer typing a letter and, of course, blogging. After this, I’ll go upstairs to do laundry, read my book on tablets and fall asleep.
I’ll share more of my plans when I wake up tomorrow. Sleep well.
Blessings,
Carlton
