Gamblers don’t have time for breaks when money is at stake.
Back in the 18th century, John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, was in the midst of a 24 hour gambling event. He had no time to eat so he asked the staff to slap some meat between two slices of bread. That way, he could play his hand of cards and eat his “sandwich” with the other.
Today is National Sandwich Day in honor of the Earl’s birthday, November 3rd. The number one sandwich we consume today? The hamburger, followed by the chicken sandwich.
Sandwiches now cover everything from wraps to paninis. They can be thin or piled high with meat, pickles, vegetables, slaws….even fried or chili! It can be anything you want it to be. But today, you may have trouble eating some sandwiches with just one hand.
I’m kinda craving a Reuben today…
Note: for a healthier Reuben, try turkey and light Thousand Island or a mayo/mustard blend.
